PubMed AI answers with every sentence cited to a PMID

Ask a clinical question and get an answer written from the biomedical literature, with every sentence linked to the PMID it comes from. ClinicalEvidence searches PubMed, the open access full text of PubMed Central and the trial registries together, so the paper and the trial behind it sit side by side.

Why medical literature search takes so long by hand

PubMed is the standard index of the biomedical literature, maintained by the National Center for Biotechnology Information at the US National Library of Medicine. Each citation has a PMID, a unique numeric identifier. PubMed is precise when you know how to build a query, and slow when you need an answer.

  • A useful search often needs MeSH terms, synonyms and publication type filters
  • Results are ranked lists of citations, not a synthesis of what they show
  • Abstracts rarely carry the detail you need, and full text sits elsewhere
  • Linking a paper to the trial registration it reports takes another search

Reading twenty abstracts to answer one question is ordinary work for a clinician, pharmacist or medical affairs specialist. ClinicalEvidence does the reading and leaves the checking to you, with every source one click away.

How AI answers over PubMed work in ClinicalEvidence

You write the question in plain language. Semantic and full text search find the relevant citations in our index, which is refreshed every day, and the answer is written only from the passages retrieved.

  1. Every sentence carries the PMIDs it rests on, and NCT numbers when a registered trial supports the claim

  2. Automatic citation verification checks that each PMID exists in the index and that the cited passage supports the sentence

  3. An answer without verified sources is not shown

  4. When the literature in the index does not answer your question, you are told so plainly, never answered from model memory

  5. Evidence summaries show the level of evidence for each source, from systematic reviews and randomized trials to observational studies

PubMed Central open access full text

PubMed Central is the full text archive of biomedical and life sciences journal articles at the National Library of Medicine. Part of it, the open access subset, is licensed in a way that allows reuse. ClinicalEvidence uses full text from that subset where the licence allows, which means answers can cite methods, results tables and subgroup findings that never appear in an abstract.

  • Full text passages are cited with the PMID of the article
  • For articles outside the open access subset, answers rely on the PubMed citation and abstract
  • The "Sources searched" panel lists only the sources actually searched for your question

Literature and trial registries in one answer

Many PubMed records of clinical trials include the registration number of the trial they report, such as an NCT number. ClinicalEvidence uses these links to connect a paper with its record on ClinicalTrials.gov, the EU Clinical Trials Register or the WHO ICTRP, so you see the published results and the registered design together.

  • The trial table shows phase, population, interventions, endpoints, results posted, sponsor, status, enrolment, dates and locations
  • Unpublished registered trials appear in the table too, which helps you spot evidence that never reached a journal
  • Start an AI literature review from a saved thread when a question grows into a project

What you see for every literature question

The cited answer

A concise synthesis with PMIDs and NCT numbers on every sentence.

The reference list

Every cited paper with a link to its PubMed record, ready to export as RIS or BibTeX on every plan, and as DOCX with a reference list on Research Team and higher.

The trial table

The registered trials related to your question, sortable and filterable, so the literature and the registry never drift apart.

An independent tool, not affiliated with NCBI

ClinicalEvidence is not affiliated with, endorsed by or operated by the National Center for Biotechnology Information, the National Library of Medicine or the NIH. PubMed and PubMed Central are their services. We index public records where licences allow and link every claim back to the original citation.

Who uses PubMed AI for medical literature search

  • Physicians and clinical pharmacists who want the evidence behind a question with sources they can quote
  • Medical affairs teams answering medical information requests
  • Researchers and HEOR consultants scoping the literature before a systematic review
  • Clinical development teams reading published results of competing programmes

ClinicalEvidence is a professional research tool. It does not give medical advice and needs no patient data.

PubMed AI questions

Does ClinicalEvidence search all of PubMed?

Our index holds PubMed citations and abstracts and the open access subset of PubMed Central where licences allow, refreshed every day. Each answer lists the sources actually searched for that question.

Can the AI cite a paper that does not exist?

No. Every PMID in an answer is checked against our index, and the cited passage must support the sentence. An answer without verified sources is not shown.

Does it read full text or only abstracts?

Full text is used for articles in the PubMed Central open access subset where the licence allows. For other articles, answers rely on the PubMed citation and abstract.

Is ClinicalEvidence affiliated with NCBI or PubMed?

No. ClinicalEvidence is an independent tool and is not affiliated with or endorsed by NCBI, the National Library of Medicine or the NIH.

Can I send the references to my reference manager?

Yes. Every plan exports RIS and BibTeX, and Research Team and higher add XLSX and DOCX with a full reference list.
